In the first ever ranking of Canada’s Community Colleges and Technical Institutes, GPRC ranked #15 for research. This ranking was completed by Re$earch InfoSource and is based on research activity. Between 2010 and 2011 (the two years reported), GPRC’s ranking changed from #46 to #15 – making it #1 for growth and #3 for research intensity in Canada. GPRC’ s applied research and innovation agenda is led by the Centre for Research & Innovation.
The ranking reflects the growth of applied research and the two major initiatives at the College. Principal Investigator Dr. Weixing Tan leads the Pollutants to Products (P2P) initiative support by Dr. Abigail Adebusuyi as Research Associate. This project combines four projects that turn what we generally consider pollutants (CO2 and effluent) into resources for trees or plants which then become useful products (wood fibre or algae). The other major initiative is the National Bee Diagnostic Centre which has become a Technology Access Centre (NBDC-TAC). Both the P2P and the NBDC-TAC are funded by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), industry and the College.
